Auto Transport FAQ
Length of
time to ship a car:
Depending on carrier availability, the shipping distance
and weather, will determine the amount of shipping
time. If time is a factor you can ask for express auto
shipping service
which
is
a guaranteed
pick up
time. Express transport service costs more, but
your automobile will be guaranteed to be there. Get
it in writing
and ask the auto shipper about their refund policy,
if the car is not picked up as guaranteed in the agreement.
Preparing
your car for transport:
If you are transporting
your car to a cold climate, make sure you've winterized
your vehicle by adding antifreeze. Also, secure
any loose items such as antennas. Disconnect auto
alarms
& anti-theft systems. Inspect your car and always
do a walk around with the transporter or
company representative.
Have current insurance on your automobile:
Legally, all car
carriers must carry liability insurance. However not
under all circumstances will it cover your car. In certain
situations
your own
policy will cover any damages incurred to your vehicle.
Read the contract and know what it means!
Terminal to terminal transport:
An auto drop off terminal is necessary in the event there is not enough
room for a car carrier to drop off your vehicle at its destination, because
of
a narrow or dead end street, or any other conditions that would not allow a car carrier to
enter. These terminals are fully licensed and insured. It should be noted
that terminal car shipping is generally less expensive than door to door
automobile shipping.
Inoperable vehicles:
The car can still be transported, but in most cases additional fees
apply because of the extra transport equipment and labor needed
to ship your car. Please note, if the automobile is in rolling condition,
less
costs& charges will apply. Book your auto transport in advance:
It is highly recommended that you book your auto
transport at least two weeks in advance. Many auto
transport brokers and car transporters
can
accommodate shorter notice, but the auto shipping
price may be slightly higher.
Determining the cost of your auto shipping:
There are several factors that effect car shipping
prices. Whether you opt' for door to door transport
& delivery
or terminal to terminal auto transport service, the
price
may differ by an average of $150 bucks. Other factors
that
effect costs are if the vehicle is enclosed auto
transport vs. open or standard car shipping. Open
transport costs generally 30-40% less. In 2007, the
average price to ship a medium sized vehicle from
New York to Florida was $695. Gas prices will
also affect the cost of your automobile transport.
